I wanted to do a guided walking tour of Brussels, but after waiting for 45 minutes I found out it doesn't run on Sundays. Oh well. I walked around the Christmas Market at the Grand Plas, samples a couple waffels (amazing!), and some mulled wine (quite nice). Went to see the Manneken Pis and found that the infamous little boy had been dressed in a sata suit.
Caught an early afternoon train to Bruges. Bruges is incredibly beautiful, but I found that the extreme Christmas like nature and the abundance of couples constantly reminded me that I was going to be alone for Christmas and my birthday.
Forced myself to go out to the Christmas Market after dark. The skaters were having a lot of fun and I was tempted to join them but I think I've only ice skated once and it was a long, long time ago. I started talking to a group of people around a coal fire, and a group of us (Canadians, Americans, South Africans, and of course the token Belgian) went out to a bar with more than 300 different beers. Despite my best efforts I didn't get anywhere near trying them all.
