Entry:
We slept in until ten - accidentally, but appreciated! We went looking for breakfast, but the guide book doesn't mention that everything including restaurants are closed on Sunday - the town is deserted. We found a dive shop, and talked with the manager, she explained that the tides were going to be bad for manta ray dives - we'd have to leave very early. She did tell us about a store that was open, so we were able to get some snacks. Afterwards we went to the Manta Bay hotel's restaurant - it's the biggest dive resort. After a pretty bad lunch we checked out the dive shop - it looked pretty bad - the gear sitting around was quite shoddy - all the tanks were out of hydro. There wasn't anyone around to talk to so we went back to our hotel. Talked to an other dive shop up north and made plans to move up there early tomorrow morning - that way we'll have better luck with the tides by being closer to the dive sites, plus the site sounds like a pretty nice beach location. We went back to Manta Ray just to make sure we were doing the right thing. This time we talked to the manager - he was very unfriendly and very cocky - almost as if we didn't have a choice. As we walked away Stacy remarked that she'd rather not dive than dive with them. We walked the city's stone path - it was very nice, way more cultivated than expected - great flowers! We followed the path out of town until it disappeared into the wilderness. Back in town we went for beers at Trader's Ridge (the very fancy hotel). After beers and appetizers we went back to hotel and ended up watching a couple episodes of friends - getting to bed way later than planned.
